LPA Walking Path gets some TLC

On a very warm Saturday the 23rd of July, 10 Lake Parker neighbors got together to perform some upgrades on the LPA walking path. I am sure most lake owners could hear chainsaws screaming and weed whackers buzzing for 3 hours that morning before the sun got high and hot. Much of the work was concentrating on the muddy entrance off Parker Road. Two donated dock sections were carried in to replace an old rotted walking deck piece and to cover another always muddy section.

This seriously creative group of volunteers also constructed on- site a beautifully curved walkway from the East entrance bridge to the sign- in post.  An uprooted tree that was falling over the path was removed making that section of trail safer for passage. One of the metal bridges crossing the ditch in the field was not level. This was corrected by leveling and securing the bases at each side of the bridge using some “good ole VT” leverage work to raise the bridge so work could be done on the base.  Chainsaws and pruning tools were used to keep the trail wide for safe passage and the grass trimmers worked overtime to keep the walking easy for all hikers.

I cannot thank this group enough for giving freely their time, effort, tools, and sweat. This group certainly defines what volunteerism is and hopefully sets an example when any task is needed on Lake Parker.

My sincere thanks to the following volunteers- Mike and Pam Pierce, Ken and Sue Grimes, Bob and Parker Saunders, Bob Sharkey, Ken Kasz, Steve Cutler, and myself. Special thanks to Ricky Grimes for checking in on all workers spread out on the path and for checking the depth of all water sources.  It was a hot day for that four- legged boy working in a fur coat.

I urge you to take a hike on our walking path and enjoy some of nature’s sights and sounds.

With great thanks.
